Frumpy to Fabulous

A Vacation Rental gets a Fresh Look

Ken’s St. Augustine Ocean & Racquet Club Condo was badly in need of a make over. Over time, the rental had become dated and worn. Challenged by low ceilings and “condo packaged” furnishings, we were able to give it a bright, modern look without having to replace all of the furniture.

Our goal was to make the 800 square foot condo look modern and feel larger, celebrating its beachfront location.

We started by removing the wallpaper, light fixtures, fans, bathroom vanities, tile, carpet, and vertical blinds.

Because details matter, we replaced the old doors and door hardware with new paneled doors, louvered closet doors and stainless handles and hinges, and outdated beige light switches with white Decora controls. Wherever possible, exposed wiring was built into the walls or discretely hidden.

These things had to go!

Painting the walls, ceilings and trim ultra pure white immediately brightened the entry hallway, kitchen, and living/dining area.

Flush mounted LED ceiling lights brightens the entry, and white wainscoting, adds a coastal touch.

Rustic gray wood laminate flooring throughout makes the space feel clean, open and more spacious.

A few changes make all the difference in the living room

We replaced a tired brown sofa and chair with an L-shaped convertible sectional in vibrant buttercup striped Sunbrella, which can be easily cleaned, adding a retro styled rattan armchair to give a fresh look to the existing rattan tables.

The contemporary 3 -blade wood fan/LED light  adds to the casual, modern beach look.

Sliding plantation shutters provide privacy and light, replacing the dated vertical blinds.

A Kitchen Transformation

The woven wicker dining fixture is modern, beach and airy.

We were able to partially remove the wall between the kitchen and dining area opening it up to the rest of the living space. The counter extension provides a bar for additional seating.

White subway tile backsplash,  gray concrete solid surface counters, flush mounted ceiling lights, and cage pendant lights over the bar completes the transformation.

The master bath was totally remodeled to include a subway tiled shower with sliced pebble floor and frameless glass doors. The wainscoting, freestanding wood vanity with beadboard framed mirror and glass jar lights keep it coastal.

The Bedrooms and Bathrooms come Alive

Vibrant melon wall color dramatically brightened up the master bedroom. And white plantation shutters,  a modern 3 blade wood fan/LED light added a clean modernity to the room.

We replaced the tired bedding with a fun Tommy Bahama quilt and airy white bedskirt.

We painted the guest bedroom bright parrot green, installed white plantation shutters and 3-blade wood fan/LED light.

The guest bath was painted tropical blue.

"Jody was so easy to work with, had great vision and creative ideas, paid attention to detail, masterfully managed all the moving parts and ensured that I would love the results...and I do! I live in Buffalo, NY and she managed everything via email and text messages."

We decorated the condo with the delightful artwork of local artists, shopping at W. B. Tatter Gallery and Simple Gestures.
